Collaborative Learning Helps to Enhance the Use of iPads in the Classroom

March 27, 2012, Columbus, OH - Participants in the workshop will have an opportunity to explore various features of the Apple iPad and learn which apps can most  effectively assist students with commonly assigned tasks.  In addition, Evernote, a piece of software, a website and an app will be presented as a digital solution that can simplify the task of creating and sharing content among members of a class or individual project teams. Lastly, the workshop participants will learn what others in the room are developing through the use of AirPlay and AirServer.

Beginning of an era: 2012 -

Thank you for visiting the new HVP website.  This new site will serve as our second generation home for Horticulture in Virtual Perspective at The Ohio State University.

The first generation HVP website began as an experiment in April, 1994 by Professor Tim Rhodus and was hosted at hcs.osu.edu.  At that time the web was a very new thing and Professor Rhodus wanted to exploit the opportunity for the benefit of all who came to the website.  Over the years, Bud Witney, Elaine Eberlin, Victor van Buchem, Lance Herron, Jim Hoskins, Lori Inkrot, Shannon Layman and Michele Thomas worked tirelessly to design, discover, create, implement and maintain many different approaches to using the web to communicate and educate.  I thank all of you for your accomplishments. 

While the hcs.osu.edu domain will now be handled by the college, you can soon find many of our previous web projects here at hvp.osu.edu.  Please watch this site as we have many new ideas under development.

Adopting a Pecha Kucha Approach to Presentations

This workshop will acquaint the audience with the Pecha Kucha format for organizing a group of presentations.The term Pecha Kucha is Japanese for “chit-chat”. Under this approach, presenters are restricted to sharing their story through only 20 slides that automatically advance every 20 seconds. The first panel of speakers will present a series of progressive topics targeted to an “Education” audience. The second panel of speakers will deliver talks appropriate for an “Extension” audience and the third panel will address topics of interest to a “Research” audience. Opportunity for questions and answers will be provided between each panel and at the end of the session.
